Periodic Table

Dan applies a scientist’s mind and an artist’s eye to drawings made using chemical elements as media. They utilize a deep understanding of the chemical properties and uses of elements not usually applied to making art. The elements are grouped alphabetically by chemical symbol. For example, Silicon (Si), Sulfur (S), Tin (Sn) and Antimony (Sb) are grouped together. Dan uses the elements usually as compounds in their many forms familiar in our daily lives. For example, silicon as sand, fiberglasss and glass beads; pure sulfur or copper sulfate encased in acrylic is shaped into organic forms; tin-antimony solder forms wave-like metallic lines. There are works that use silver, gold and aluminum (Ag, Au, Al), boron, barium, beryllium, bismuth and bromine (B, Ba, Be, Bi, Br), and carbon, calcium, cobalt and copper (C, Ca, Co, Cu) among others.
